Do Stairlifts Use a Lot of Electricity?
Stairlifts allow us to stay in the home with love when mobility issues become overwhelming and the need for help on the stairs is apparent. We often get asked how much it costs to run a stairlift and if the stairlift uses a lot of electricity, The simple answer is no.
In this article, we will examine the energy consumption and operating costs of stairlifts, to advise how much electricity they use.
Electricity Usage of Stairlifts
Stairlifts use much less power than common household appliances such as washing machines ( around 0.5-1.5kWH per hour, electric stoves, and dryers. So after the installation of a good stairlift, you shouldn’t see any significant difference in your monthly utility bill.
There are two different types of stairlifts straight and curved and there is a slight difference in the electric usage. A standard straight stairlift will use on average between 0.024 and 0.33 kWh of electricity per hour, while a curved stairlift will use between 0.03 and 0.5 kWh.
Please note that the above is an estimate, the true cost will depend on a number of factors – I.E. the age of the lift, the model, and how often it is used. We estimate that it will cost between £20 - £50 a year.
