Types of Mobile Hoists

What type of home lift do I need for a wheelchair?
How much space is required for a lift in my home?
Home lifts provide access, independence and a happier, more relaxed experience lifestyle and can have benefits not only to your health and wellbeing but to the value of your home if you decide to sell in the future. For disabled users home lifts allow a safer way to travel between the levels of the home and relieve the stress of using the stairs or a stairlift alternative.
If you are considering purchasing a home lift, you may first have questions regarding the installation process, for example what space will I need for a home lift to be installed. The guide below details how much space you would require, alongside other things to consider regarding the space / area that the lift is installed.
Consider your space
With a range of compact options, Terrys home lifts offer an accessible through floor lift that doesn’t require a huge amount of space and can be fitted into even the smallest of homes.
Before deciding to choosing a compact lift you should still consider the space around where it would be installed, to ensure there are no obstructions, ie, a door will open fully and that you have space for everyone to enter and exit the lift and to move around the room when the lift is not in use.
Where would a home lift be installed?
We aim to install home lifts in the home where it doesn’t effect the space, the most common places where home lifts are installed include:
- Bedrooms
- Stairwells
- Big living rooms
- Existing cupboards or under stair storage
Do I need to get planning permission to get a Harmony Home Lift installed?
No, however, Building Control approval is required as you are altering the structural integrity of your floor when you have an aperture cut in the floor for your lift. We will always double joist the floor (if a traditional wooden floor) when forming the aperture. This is the only way to ensure that the original structural integrity of your floor is maintained. We will arrange for the local Building Control to come along and approve the work carried out.
What size lift are you choosing?
Space allocation for a home lift will depend on the type of lift you require along side the model, as this can vary in size.
